Success, Success!

My recent speaking tour in Melbourne, Victoria, was a success!

I presented Masterclasses to university lecturers and school teachers, teaching them how to use sequential art, language meditation, improvisation, and drama as communication mediums in the second language classroom.

Stuart is seen here at St Aloysius College in Melbourne, Victoria, discussing his thesis research into Franco-Belgian comics and their impact on global society. The presentation also covered how these works can be used as a communication medium in second-language classrooms.

Here we have Stuart, engaging reception to year 7 children in the School of Languages Languages Alive program, with his French language teachings. He introduced his innovative class, Language in Action, to educators and students, showcasing how sequential art, improvisation, and drama can be used as effective communication tools in the second language classroom.

Stuart is seen here demonstrating improvisation during an English language class to international students and professionals.

Stuart's linguistics presentations about Japanese animation for schools are enjoyed across age demographics!

Stuart's national speaking tour of Australia attracts many scholars and enthusiasts of linguistics and popular culture to his presentations!During his thesis speaking engagements, Stuart discusses sequential art and the influence of visual storytelling on global society.

Free Comic Book Day Presentation!

The first Saturday in May is Free Comic Book Day, everyone, a global initiative celebrating literature, and here in Adelaide, during a tour of Adelaide's comic book stores, I spoke about comic books being a powerful medium for relaying a political or social message to a readership of any age and their influence on global society, specifically in the second language classroom using my work with students studying French language and culture learning about la bande dessinée franco-belge as an example.

It was a fun day to be sure engaging with the greater Adelaide community and of course, increasing one's collection of resource material!

Radio interview with 2NURFM in New South Wales, Australia

Holy interview Batman!

I had a most enjoyable time with Morning Show Presenter Mark Rorke from 2NURFM in New South Wales, discussing comic book literature, specifically Batman, and the global Batman Day celebration.

Click on the image above to listen to the interview!

The interview focussed on the influence of the superhero in a global pop culture society, and I spoke about my thesis investigations of the context, stereotypes, representations, and controversies in comic book literature.
The interview comes at a fantastic time as I prepare for my first post-COVID-19 keynote about the literature at Supanova Comic Con and Gaming at the Adelaide Showground on October 30.

A fantastic presentation!

Presenter at Nexus Pop Culture Convention, August 8-9, 2020

I had an absolute hoot as a presenter at Australia's first online pop culture convention on August 8 and 9!

During the event, I presented my thesis investigations of the creator of the Tintin character, specifically the controversy surrounding his employment as an illustrator during the Second World War.

I received a second booking to conduct a public lecture about languages created for the entertainment industry that included an interactive Klingon language workshop.
