The Daleks invaded the Palace Nova Eastend Cinema on July 10!

The second booking this week to MC and host the exclusive double feature of remastered classic Dr Who films, Dr Who and The Daleks, and Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. was as much fun as Thursday night's opening of Thor, Love and Thunder!

My pre-screening presentation offered a brief insight into Dr Who, the franchise, and comparisons with other classic pop culture television shows of the period.

Appreciative thanks to Palace Nova Cinema for the booking, and special thanks to Adam Lonsdale and the Dalek Builders Group including many wonderful pieces of memorabilia for the exhibit!

A successful day of marketing and promotion!

Fantastic weather at Brighton greeted visitors at the Rendezvous Market, a market promoting European businesses in Adelaide.

I received a steady flow of visitors to my expo stand during the event promoting my exhibition of comic book linguistics this coming April 24 at the Adelaide Comic and Toy Fair, as well as speaking about the School of Languages Languages Alive School Holiday Program.

Teaching the Teachers!

I conducted a workshop about cultural awareness to a most receptive and enthusiastic group of teachers as part of their yearly staff professional development program.

Interacting with people from other cultures enriches your outlook on life. Reflection of your differences and your similarities help you view life through the eyes of many others in a global community.

When you learn about other cultures, you establish new methods of thought and solve problems from a different perspective.

STEM Ignition Series, State Library of South Australia

Happy 2022 everyone!

There was a most inquisitive audience in attendance at the State Library of South Australia.
I was one of four keynote speakers during the STEM Ignition Series that formed a panel to discuss science fiction to science fact.
Do the two intertwine and meet?
Are they contradictory?
STEM focuses on one or more of the four disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and math. In an era when technical and scientific skills are increasingly important in the workforce, exposing children to STEM learning in the early years is the key.
I spoke about Artificial Languages, Universal Language Translators, and Computer-Assisted Language Learning.
With restrictions easing, I look forward to my next series of keynotes in the new year!

Radio interview with 2NURFM in New South Wales, Australia

Holy interview Batman!

I had a most enjoyable time with Morning Show Presenter Mark Rorke from 2NURFM in New South Wales, discussing comic book literature, specifically Batman, and the global Batman Day celebration.

Click on the image above to listen to the interview!

The interview focussed on the influence of the superhero in a global pop culture society, and I spoke about my thesis investigations of the context, stereotypes, representations, and controversies in comic book literature.
The interview comes at a fantastic time as I prepare for my first post-COVID-19 keynote about the literature at Supanova Comic Con and Gaming at the Adelaide Showground on October 30.
Are you a Batman fan?
