AnimeGo, what fun!

The AnimeGO Japan Pop Culture Festival attracted thousands of pop culture fans during the day-long event, as part of the annual Oz Asia Festival on October 29.
I had a fantastic attendance during my linguistic presentation about the influence of Anime and Manga on global society.

Thanks to Mr Matt Bushell for this beautiful testimony post-speaking presentation at AnimeGo Japanese Pop Culture Festival in Adelaide.

Stuart delivered a presentation on Japanese manga and anime and its influence on Western pop culture at our AnimeGO festival in 2023. He is lively, visually entertaining, engaging, and an expert in not only pop culture but also languages and their relationship to culture. Stuart also offered an in-person ‘meet-and-greet’ with the audience after the presentation, which was a great chance for the festival attendees to ask questions.

A wonderful exhibition opening!

I enjoyed connecting with language-teaching professionals at the Adelaide Comic and Toy Fair on October 2.

It was a great opportunity to showcase the influence of cognitive linguistics on comic books and music to the greater Adelaide community.

Click through to view fantastic images from Stuart's April exhibition of world comic book linguistics!
During the exhibition, I discussed using comic books as a communication medium in the second language classroom, along with excerpts from my research at Flinders University in Adelaide, South Australia, Brussels Comics Art Museum, and Musée Hergé in Belgium.

A big shoutout to my support crew for their assistance at the event!

Free Comic Book Day Presentation!

The first Saturday in May is Free Comic Book Day, everyone, a global initiative celebrating literature, and here in Adelaide, during a tour of Adelaide's comic book stores, I spoke about comic books being a powerful medium for relaying a political or social message to a readership of any age and their influence on global society, specifically in the second language classroom using my work with students studying French language and culture learning about la bande dessinée franco-belge as an example.

It was a fun day to be sure engaging with the greater Adelaide community and of course, increasing one's collection of resource material!

2023 Teaching award nomination!

I am chuffed to receive a nomination for this year's Narragunnawali Awards for Reconciliation in Education!

Held biennially since 2017, the Narragunnawali Awards are the only national awards program that recognises and celebrates Australian schools and early learning services implementing outstanding reconciliation initiatives. Finalists are acknowledged for strengthening relationships, building respect, and providing meaningful opportunities in the classroom, around the school or service, and with the community.

The children I teach are undertaking a daily linguistic program of the French and Barngarla languages and culture.
