It was a delight to curate an exhibition at the Adelaide Comic Convention and Toy Fair on April 21. The exhibition explored the languages and linguistics of comics in the Wild West, including la bande dessinée franco-belge, showcasing literature and memorabilia from the early 1900s to the present.
Comic books are a unique medium that combines illustrations and written words to tell stories that reflect cultural concerns and societal transformations.
Throughout the exhibition, I engaged with language teachers and visitors, discussing the use of language in comics, including context, stereotypes, representations, and controversies, and how they have influenced global society as well as using sequential art, improvisation, and drama as communication mediums in the second-language classroom.

Thanks to all that attended my presentation and exhibition of language in context in world comic book literature and children's stories at the Adelaide Comic and Toy Fair on April 23.
It was fantastic connecting with the greater Adelaide community and fellow language teaching professionals during the exhibition's run and discussing the use of the comic book as a communication medium in the second language classroom.

Series One of inspirational women of pop culture explored the lives of Bettie Page and Frida Kahlo, both icons of fashion and art are celebrated around the world by an ever-growing volume of admirers.
Supanova Comic Con and Gaming at the Adelaide Showgrounds on November 12 and 13 was fantastic!
Thanks to all visitors that attended my exhibition of world comic book linguistics.
During the exhibition run, I discussed my thesis investigations of the literature with language teaching professionals and enthusiasts, and using comic books as a communication medium in the second language classroom, specifically a new language teaching class I launched at the School of Languages Languages Alive program earlier this year. (see image below).
Stuart is seen here bringing dynamism to the second language teaching classroom at the School of Languages in Adelaide. He created a new class, Language in Action, teaching teachers and students how to use comic books as a communication medium in language education.
The greater Adelaide community of pop culture enthusiasts turned out in their droves to visit my World Comic Book Linguistics exhibition at The Adelaide Comic and Toy Fair on October 3!
During the event, I discussed with language teaching professionals the use of the comic book as a communication medium in the second language classroom. Specifically, a new language teaching class I created and launched at the School of Languages Languages Alive Holiday Program in July!
I look forward to the next stages of my national speaking tour later this month!
Languages in Comics Exhibition April 2021
I had an absolute hoot presenting excerpts of my thesis investigations to the greater Adelaide community during my exhibition of comic book linguistics at the Adelaide Comic and Toy Fair.
The exhibition presented visitors with an investigation of the linguistic context, stereotypes, representations, and controversies in early comic book literature and children's stories.
The comic book is a powerful medium for relaying a political or a social message to a readership of any age. By presenting a variety of media, and popular sources including period-specific comic book literature created in France and Belgium, as well as comic strips and children's books from the United Kingdom and the Americas, this exhibition permits the viewer to examine the linguistic, contextual, representational and stereotypical elements in early comic book literature while reflecting on the controversies surrounding their publications.

I received a booking to curate Australia's first exhibition of la bande dessinée franco-belge at Supanova Comic-con and Gaming at the Adelaide Showgrounds.
I enjoyed a steady flow of the approx; 20,000 pop culture fans that attended Supanova, and included to the exhibition was rare literature from the 1930s to present day, as well as a series of dioramas and sculptures.
Franco-Belgian comic book literature is officially recognised as the ninth art, and many fan favourites like; Tintin, Asterix, Lucky Luke, and others were on exhibit all weekend!

Supanova loved hosting the Franco-Belgian Comic-Book Characters pop-up exhibition. Featuring Tintin, Asterix, Lucky Luke, The Smurfs, and many more, the unique items took fans on a nostalgic journey with the visual display enhanced by the encyclopedic knowledge of Stuart. He lovingly shared his passion with our audience.

Exhibition Exhibitor - Adelaide Fringe Festival 2018!
A great attendance for the offical launch of my Fringe Exhibition!
There was a steady flow of visitors to the launch of Lexicon - An exhibition of retro pop culture from the golden age (1940s, 50s, and 60s), entertained and informed lovers of TV, Film, Radio, and Music!
During Lexicon's run, I conducted a guided tour explaining the cultural significance of the 200 pieces included in the exhibition and their influence in a global society.
Lexicon ran from Feb 15 to March 25 at the City of Unley Museum (an official Adelaide Fringe Event Venue).
